Charlotte's Dilworth neighborhood is as gorgeous as it is historic, known as the city's first streetcar suburb. Just south of Uptown Charlotte, the neighborhood is full of charming bungalows with a slew of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Oak trees line the streets, providing a perfect place to stroll along or relax on the front porch. This area draws people from all over Charlotte on the weekends and is host to the annual Greek Festival each fall.
Living in Dilworth is easy and convenient, with schools, churches, grocery stores, and plenty of entertainment within it's confines. Charlotte's uptown and interstate are close by, as are other neighborhoods like Myers Park, South End, and Sedgefield.
Dilworth's residents and weekend visitors are varied, from families with children, to young urban professionals and a smaller niche of the more creative types, making for a comfortable level of diversity in the neighborhood. Dividing Dilworth is East Boulevard, with some of Charlotte's best dining and unique stores. Numerous restaurants are located along East Blvd., some of the most popular being Thai Taste (go for a quick delicious lunch), 300 East (wine specials and a mouth watering menu), Copper (upscale Indian), and Cantina 1511 (best margarita in town).
East Blvd. is dotted with great boutique shopping. It's impossible not to look good after a trip to stores like Sloan, Step by Sloan (for all you shoe lovers), Lotus (affordable couture), and Handpicked (gorgeous handmade jewelry). Paper Skyscraper is the place to go for any gift needs. It's easy to spend an hour just looking around this popular spot, with it's wide array of coffee table books, unique gifts and gadgets, and apothecary items.
East Blvd. also has quite a few upscale salons, a natural foods store, a Harris Teeter grocer, and any other necessity life requires (yes, there's a Starbucks). Dilworth is home to two gyms, Dowd YMCA and Peak Fitness. Freedom Park is located at one end of East Blvd., and hosts many festivals each year. It provides a great place to bring the family with it's huge playground, duck pond, walking trails, and tennis courts.
Dilworth is such a desirable area of Charlotte to live in, as it offers so much to provide an ideal way of life. |
