Getting Around Charlotte:

Due to the growing population and ecomony in Charlotte, the Transportation Department has made serious strides in inhancing the public transportation system in and around Charlotte. With the increase in gas prices and the need to conserve energy, the Charlotte Transportation Department has dedicated themselves to finding newer, environment friendly, modes of transportation.
They encourage the use of the Charlotte Bus system, the new CATS light rail LYNX, and the popular Park and Ride carpooling system. This encouragement stems from their new "Clean Air campaigne". Statistics show that car emmisions are the leading pollutant in the Charlotte region. With over 40 free park and ride locations, and the installment of HOV ( high occupancy Vehical) lanes, the Charlotte Transportation department hopes to decrease those statistics.

A unique addition to the CATS services, is the recent facelift to the park and ride hubs, and other transportation stations. The new "Art in Transit" program has allowed artists to add a creative and bright look to the stations. Whether its a sculpture, decorated arches, mosaics, or painted pavement designs, the project has succeeded in bringing art and liveliness to the areas.

Going into Downtown Charlotte? Hop on the new CATS ( Charlotte Area Transit System) Lynx light rail. This energy saving and cost efficiant system, runs up and down from 9th Street to I-485 South Blvd. Stopping at 9 stations, most of which are park and ride stations, allows residents to utilize the public transit, save on gas money, and help the environment. Plus, the convenience reliability of this system means efficient travel. For a relaxing, traffic free commute, and resonable fares try the Lynx transit system.

Getting around the outter corridors of Charlotte does not have to be cost comsuming. The Park and Ride stations allow people to meet for carpooling, vanpooling, or hop on a local bus. The CATS system has created a communication page to allow commutors to compare schedules and locations, allowing them to set up their own carpooling system. The local bus system is also an efficent mode of transportaion. With stops at convenient and popular locations, the bus system is a proven money saving option.
