Southpark, about five miles south of Uptown Charlotte, is a wonderful area of town containing the eponymous Southpark Mall, a large upscale shopper's paradise. Located in the heart of the city, near Myers Park, Cotswold, and Barclay Downs, the sprawling Charlotte neighborhood is a mixture of fine homes and new town homes and luxury apartments.
One of the state's largest business districts, Southpark has a myriad of restaurants and entertainment for people and families of all ages and interests, specifically the annual free summer series Pops In The Park. Sunday evening performances by the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra draw huge crowds with picnics and a desire to socialize and relax. The annual Christmas tree lighting at Southpark Mall is another popular event, a miniature version of New York City's well-known tradition.
A far cry from the pastureland it once was, Southpark is a fine example of Charlotte's tasteful progress, with wooded subdivisions tucked away from busy roads, an enormous modern YMCA (which are numerous and widely used in Charlotte, unlike a lot of other cities), schools, and churches. Southpark is a truly great place to live. |
