Harrisburg found its beginnings as Scottish-Irish immigrants settled the area in the late 1700s. A railroad depot, built on land purchased from the family of one of these settlers, Robert Harris, gave Harrisburg its name.
Not incorporated until 1973,Harrisburg has experienced steady growth with nearby Charlotte Motor Speedway, Concord Mills and the University of North Carolina attracting residents and businesses.
Today, Harrisburg continues to be an attractive choice for families seeking to live outside the Charlotte city limits but within a short commute. Located in Cabarrus County northeast of Charlotte, Harrisburg offers convenient transportation with access to Interstates 85 and 485, affordable housing, and high performing schools.
Harrisburg hosts an annual 4th of July weekend long festival that includes a beauty pageant, parade, battle of the bands contest, rides, and of course fireworks!
