Concord is the county seat to one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina. Despite rapid growth, Concord has managed to preserve its rich history while offering an enticing place to work and live.
Located just 20 minutes northeast of Charlotte, NC in Cabarrus County, Concord's origins stem from Scotch-Irish and German settlers who decided on the area as the county seat in 1806 after a dispute on where to place the county seat. Concord's name bears the results of the agreement as Concord means "harmony". The development of cotton mills by the Cannon brothers moved Concord to a bustling city of 4,000 by 1890.
Today, the hayday of the prosperous mills has gone and the Phillip Morris cigarette plant has closed as well, but Concord has managed to bounce back attracting new businesses and banking on its NASCAR draw with the Lowe's Motor Speedway at the hub along with mega-mall Concord Mills drawing huge amounts of visitors to the area.
Continued growth with new home development along Poplar Tent and Weddington Roads along with revitalization of the downtown area, makes Concord a desirable place to work and live.
