Born from cotton farming, the town of Waxhaw takes it's name from the Indian Tribe that once inhabited the area. A rail line to Atlanta built in 1888 boosted the cotton farming community to prosperity and after cotton lost it's influence in the area in the 1960s, Waxhaw established itself as a fine dining and antique center for the Union County, North Carolina area.
Today, Waxhaw offers a charming Historic District (listed on the National Historic Register) with beautiful old homes, antique shops and restaurants ranging from country style to fine dining.
The area is also flourishing with plenty of new, affordable housing options, shopping centers and businesses.
Area attractions include The Museum of the Waxhaws, a town and skateboard park and Cane Creek Park, which offers 1,050 acres of camping, a trophy bass lake, trails and playgrounds.
The town of Waxhaw likes to celebrate and offers numerous community events including a 4th of July parade, Autumn Treasures Festival and Scottish Games in October, a Spring Festival and a Christmas Parade.
With so much to enjoy, Waxhaw is celebrating it's old way of life while attracting new residents to the charming town.
