Located in Union County, southeast of Charlotte, the Village of Wesley Chapel originated in 1801 when J.N. Price, a member of the state legislature, introduced a bill establishing a tax supported, rural high school in the area - which was one of the first in North Carolina.
Wesley Chapel maintained its identity as a small, rural equestrian and farming community until sprawl from Charlotte introduced new growth to the area. As a result, Wesley Chapel became a municipality in 1998 boasting a population of 1,100 residents.
Today, the Village of Wesley Chapel is continuing to grow as new residents are attracted by the beautiful surroundings, close proximity to Charlotte, North Carolina, moderately priced single-family homes and development of shops and businesses.
