Founded in 1873, Pineville began as a cotton farming town. A former Indian settlement, the first white settlers in the area produced the eleventh President of the United States, James K. Polk, who was born in Pineville in 1795. The Dover Yarn Mill was built in Pineville in the late 1800s as a result of the booming cotton farming industry. The mill became the main industry of the town and is currently operated by Cone Mill, Inc.

 

Today, Pineville offers a thriving retail industry, an active parks and recreation department with summer outdoor movie series and an annual fall festival, historic places to visit and friendly residents.
