University City, NC Real Estate

Situated in the northeast corner of Charlotte, University City boasts an obvious connection to college life. The University of North Carolina Charlotte is a growing and vibrant campus and has encouraged strong development in it's surrounding neighborhoods. Though there is a major college-aged population, University City is a great place for first time home buyers and families alike. With many tucked away neighborhoods, the area provides options for the typical American family to the more upscale luxury living seekers. A mixture of different lifestyles provides a comfortable area of Charlotte to call home. University City has undergone many major changes over the last 20 years. No longer just known for the university and acres of farmland, the area, along with adjacent Concord and Harrisburg, has developed into a solid community with as much to offer as any other modern suburb. Nothing is lacking in University City, including kind residents and easy living.

Restaurants, bars and entertainment venues are plentiful and usually packed, including those connected to the University and the 49ers (UNCC was spared permanent closure in 1949, which inspired the nickname. Athletic teams, students, alumni, and faculty are referred to as '49ers'. The school is coincidentally located on Highway 49. The actual mascot is a gold miner.) 49er fans are not considered rabid, though they are very supportive. Basketball might be the most popular sporting event for the school, although it's common knowledge that college students don't need a championship to provide a reason to celebrate. Overall, the University area is a peaceful, idealistic place to live and visit.

There is never a lack of things to do in University City. The biggest draw could possible be Verizon Wireless Ampitheater. A national concert and festival venue, Verizon is host to some of the world's most well known music acts. You name it, they've played there. Lowe's Motor Speedway, the Southeast's largest athletic facility, is located along the outskirts of University City, and attracts droves of NASCAR fans each race. Concord Mills Mall is in close proximity as well. An entire day isn't enough time to cover the abundance of shopping options here. IKEA is set to open a store in the area sometime in 2009, as well.
