South End's warehouses and mills were once home to a number of textile factories, which are now what gives the area it's unique look and feel as the structures have been converted into hip restaurants, offices, shops, and homes. Once a railroad hub connecting Charlotte with Charleston and Columbia, SC during the 1800's, South End has preserved it's history with a museum and functioning trolley that travels between it and Uptown Charlotte, transporting fun seekers on the weekends.
Bordered by Uptown Charlotte, Dilworth, and Sedgefield, South End has much to offer for dining, shopping, entertainment, and living. Old mills have been revamped into chic apartments and condos, and new homes are still being built. A mixture of fine dining, hot lunch spots, and casual bars attract crowds throughout the week, with a popular gallery crawl every first Friday of each month. Staying active in South End is easy since the YMCA and South End Sports Club are in the area. Having fun is also simple, with two busy music venues that draw national acts.
The neighborhood lies along South Blvd., a main thoroughfare of the city, is close to Charlotte's interstate system, and is on the path of the LYNX light rail, making getting around a breeze. Living and playing in South End is comfortable and fun, ideal for just about anyone.
